The staff and volunteers at Little Mittens are not trained in veterinary medicine. While we love to help as much as possible, without the proper vet training, we are not legally permitted to offer consultative services or dispense any medication (including de-worming meds). Please call your vet or emergency vet services for professionally trained advice.

Food/Litter Assistance
We understand that life can be tough sometimes! If you are in need of a little help securing food and/or litter for your pet, we may be able to help. This is subject to availability and reliant on donations – we will make sure our shelter and foster animals are taken care of first but when we have extras to share, we will! If you are looking for assistance, please contact us at littlemittensrescue@gmail.com or fill out the contact form here.
Domestic Surrender
There are many reasons that we are contacted by someone in need of surrendering their pet – living situations change, financial constraints, surprise kittens/puppies, and more. We understand and strive to provide an understanding space for community members to contact us if they need to find a new home for their pet. If you are needing to surrender, please call us at 250-939-8085, or e-mail us at littlemittensrescue@gmail.com with information and photos about your animal.
Some restrictions:
– As we are a smaller rescue, we generally limit our domestic intakes to the Golden and surrounding area.
– We unfortunately do not have the resources to work with dogs that have aggressive behavioural issues. We cannot take on bite cases. In the case that we cannot help, we may be able to connect you with someone that can. We also recommend
2024 Assisted Spay/Neuter Program
PROGRAM CLOSED FOR 2024. We are hoping to bring it back next year!
Having a cat or dog in the family is a special opportunity that can bring many benefits – including reducing stress/anxiety and building a love and appreciation for animals in children. However, owning a pet is also a financial responsibility that can cause its own stress. Food, supplies, and medical costs can all add up! We understand that life can be tough sometimes and are happy to be able to offer our Assisted Spay/Neuter Program once again.
Note that we are aiming this program towards low-income households and those that can demonstrate that they are going through financial difficulties. Please don’t apply if you have the financial means and are only looking for a discount.
We are grateful to Columbia Basin Trust for the support needed to make this program possible via the 2024 Golden ReDi Grant. We are also grateful to the Invermere Veterinary Clinic for their time, contribution, and cooperation in getting these animals safely spayed and/or neutered.
