Our Process

As we don’t have open public hours at the shelter, our process is a little different then you may be used to! The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an application online or in person at Pet Valu Golden (you can find them online in the drop down menu above). Please note that we can get quite busy and it may take up to two weeks to contact you about your application. Once we review your application and get in contact with you, we will schedule a meet and greet! We often find that adopters have an animal in mind based on photos but end up going home with a different cat/dog/bunny – personality is everything when finding the perfect match!!

Adoption Fees

An important part of our mission is finding good homes for cats, kittens and dogs. Whether they have come to us as feral kittens and have been brought back to health and socialized, or older cats that have lost their way – we put forth every effort to find them their ideal forever homes.

All of our adoptable cats, dogs, and rabbits have been spayed/neutered, had at least their first set of core vaccinations, are dewormed, and are vet-checked as needed. Remember a ‘free’ kitten or puppy is actually not free for the responsible pet owner! All of the things that we provide with adoption could easily cost over $500, depending on the clinic. We are now required to pay 7% PST on all adoption fees – this tax is included in the adoption fees below.

Cats:
Kittens (Up to one year of age) : $185.00
Adults (1 year to 7 years of age) : $160.00
Seniors (Older than 7 years of age) : $80.00
Dogs:
Puppies (Up to 7 months of age) : $325.00
Adults (7 months+ of age) : $325.00
Rabbits:
All ages : $80.00

Fostering – A Rewarding Experience!

Foster homes are needed just as much as adoptive homes – sometimes more! Senior cats, shy cats, and cats with special dietary/medical needs often do much better in a foster home than in the shelter while they are waiting for their forever home. We are also always looking to have a list of fosters for dogs that we can reach out to if we need a last minute placement, as we don’t currently have shelter space for dogs.
